HDC Joins World Trade Center Lawsuit
This week, HDC joined as a co-plaintiff in a lawsuit
regarding the proposed development at the World Trade Center site.
HDC believes that this site is of utmost historical importance to
our city and nation, and has been acting as a consulting party in
discussions about development on the site since 2003. Unfortunately,
the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation and its development
partners are proposing to build over significant portions of the
site. HDC feels strongly that this would be in violation of the
National
Historic Preservation Act and has joined a coalition of individuals
and organizations who are pursuing legal action to protect the historic
integrity of the site. The goal of the lawsuit is not to prevent
the memorial or development on the site, but to ensure that visitors
to the site will have the opportunity to experience for themselves
the enormity of the World Trade Center towers. HDC will make sure
to keep our constituents updated as this suit progresses.
