bronx branches

The Bronx, part of The New York Public Library,
has eight of its original nine Carnegies, seven of them still
operating as branches. These buildings, designed by the architectural
firms of McKim, Mead & White, Carrere & Hastings and
Babb, Cook & Willard, are some of the more eclectic of the
Carnegies featuring Georgian Revival, Classical Revival Florentine
and neo-Federal styles. The Hunt’s Point Branch, built
with left over funds in 1929, was the last Carnegie branch opened
for The New York Public Library. The Morrisania Branch is a
New York City individual landmark, and the Mott Haven Branch
is part of the Mott Haven Historic District.
