March 2009, Volume 6 Number 3

Slightly belated, always informative, this month’s e-bulletin comes to you with enthusiastic thanks for helping to make…

HDC’s 15th Annual Preservation Conference A Success!

Thank you to everyone who made it out to Communities & Cornices! This was one of our most successful Conference weekends to date, with more than 500 total people in attendance at the weekend’s events, from the reception at the Puffin Room in SoHo to the tours throughout the city. We’ve already posted a number of images from this year’s Opening Night Reception and walking tours on our website, and will be adding pictures from the conference panels shortly. Be sure to check back for updates!

Miss this year’s event? Contact HDC to make an appointment to listen to the audio recordings of the Saturday conference panels.

Get the Word Out About Your Organization: Join the Neighborhood Preservation Center Online!

The Historic Districts Council is located at the Neighborhood Preservation Center in the historic Ernest Flagg Rectory at St. Mark’s Church in-the-Bowery in the East Village. One of the Center’s goals is to maintain up-to-date information on the many organizations working toward the improvement and protection of New York City’s diverse neighborhoods.  The Center’s online Resource Referral Database links inquiries related to neighborhood improvement, community revitalization and historic preservation to the organizations, institutions and individuals that can assist.

New! “Financial Incentives for Historic Buildings” Brochure Released by HDC

From tax state and federal tax credits to low-interest loans, there exists a number of financial incentives and support available to help purchase, maintain and restore historic properties. City, state and national preservation offices and commissions, as well as nonprofit organizations, offer resources to ease the costs of home repairs and restorations. To qualify, buildings generally must be locally designated by the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, either as an individual landmark or as part of a historic district, or must be listed on the New York State or National Register of Historic Places.

HDC’s newest brochure, now available on our website and in print, provides an overview of the variety and sources of this assistance, compiling important information from a range of agencies and organizations into one, easy to understand publication, complete with contact information and basic eligibility requirements.

To receive hard copies of this brochure, please email hdc@hdc.org with your mailing information and the number copies requested.
